For centuries this land has played a vital role a link for trade and commerce between the East and the West. From the earlier days where it was the center point of the Silk Route that started from Europe into the Middle East into parts of Pakistan, India and then onto China and finally in South East Asia. Take the Middle East out of the picture and all of this would’ve simply never been possible.
One look at the world map and it’s not hard to miss. Yes the world should have 7 continents and the Middle East should be one of them. Connecting 3 continents and bringing together traders and cultures from the beginning of time the Middle East has come a long and far way from its earlier days of just being dusty and a couple of ports or a route traders embarked upon.
Out of this land one of the worlds most prominent Poets and writers in Khalil Gibran. His rebellious yet romantic style of writing struck a chord with millions of Arabs and people the world over. This land has over flowed with wealth from the beginning of time. Yes the world’s Oil and Gas and Petroleum comes from this region. Yet the topic of my discussion is not about the Great Khalil Gibran or the Oil Barons of today’s world or the importance of the Middle East in the Silk Route across Asia.
It is simply “Left to write, right to left”. Some of you may never understand this phrase but a quirky conversation and after a couple of mind blogging sessions the topic seemed right enough. It simply means what it says “left to write, right to left”, give it a little rational thought and you’ll get it. The language of “The Qur’an”. It is indeed one of the oldest languages and has been around for centuries together. Unlike any other language in the world Arabic is the only language written from Right to Left.
Like in the old days where this prominent land played meeting place for traders and business man alike this dusty, busy and bustling environment hasn’t changed too much. There is something for everyone here. Yes there has been some changes with the globalization they’ve got more stylish and old racked houses have been replaced by the state of the art glass housed Sky Scrapers, narrow and dingy streets have given way to posh and more stylish and spacious roads, Horse and Camel drawn carts have given way to state of the art and the fastest and most luxurious cars in the world. Ports have the latest technology and the security features provide the highest level of security in the world.
This ancient land, the melting points of trade and commerce and languages and cuisines the gateway of the Silk Route from Europe, Africa and Asia. The Land of the Persian Gulf. Centuries have passed by and nothing has changed. It still remains the link between Africa, Europe and Asia. Arabic the language of the people is among the 6 Official languages of the United Nations and not without good reason. If I am a business owner and am looking to take my business global taping into the Middle East would be of top priority.
The Middle East comprises of over 25 countries. A vast majority of these countries have either adopted Arabic as their official language or as the second most commonly spoken language. Now in order for your business to be truly global one has to tap into the Arab market or the Middle East because at the end of the day like in the olden days it is the meeting point where East meets west. If one single language can cover a geographical region of an Entire Region of over 25 countries with over 350 million speakers globally and if this doesn’t inspire you to get your website or advertisements or business content into the local speaking language. Then I wonder if anything will!!!
